  • Mary Mattingly – CANCELLED

    Mary Mattingly

Mary Mattingly will no longer be speaking at Spark due to family reasons. We apologise for any disappointment.

Mary Mattingly is an American visual artist living and working in New York. Mary will speak about the process of her sculpture, performance, and photographic work, including her projects “Nomadographies,” “Anatomy of Melancholy,” and the “Waterpod Project” along with new work.

She focuses on aspects of migration and movement, future narratives involving remnants of industrial societies, the struggle of political and ecological refugees, and the status of natural resources, including water. Mattingly builds wearable environments and autonomous living and traveling systems that she then narrates through performances, video, and photography.
Visit Mary’s website at http://marymattingly.com/ to see the range of mediums she explores.

    Workshop Content

Mary Mattingly will explain her photographic process, including combining photography with the practices of performance, drawing, experimental documentary work, and a collaborative work, and talk about the ways in which this type of practice might be relevant to the class. Students will be able to do several exercises to help create or expand a personal blog.  Finally, based on experiences judging photographic competitions, Mary Mattingly will cover insights into completing successful grant and competition applications specific to photography.
